IRCC opens Parents & Grandparents Program in 2018

Potential sponsors will have the opportunity to express their interest to sponsor in 2018

Canadian citizens and permanent residents will soon be able to take the first step in applying to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada when the Parents and Grandparents Program reopens in 2018. The “Interest to Sponsor” form will be available at noon EST on January 2, 2018. Those who wish to apply to sponsor their parents and grandparents in 2018 must first fill out this online form. It will be available until noon February 1, 2018.

To help ensure the efficiency of the system and to allow as many eligible sponsors as possible to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada, it is important that only those who meet the sponsorship eligibility requirements submit an “Interest to Sponsor” form. Additional questions have been added to the 2018 version of the “Interest to Sponsor” form to help potential sponsors self-assess whether they are eligible to sponsor.

Confirm your permanent residency by telephone? Scam or not?

In the past few months IRCC has been sending emails inviting selected Permanent Resident applicants who are in Canada, to be part of a new initiative that allows them to confirm their permanent residency by telephone. This new method allows them to obtain permanent resident status without the need to physically go to a local IRCC office for an appointment.  These invitations  are part  of an effort to provide better client service as can be read on the IRCC website and are absolutely no scam.

Renewal Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program

manitoba

The Province of Manitoba announced several changes to their provincial nominee program to attract more immigrants:

The MPNP will be reorganized around four new or revised application streams:

  1. International Education Stream (IES)
  2. Business Investor Stream (BIS)
  3. Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream (SWM)
  4. Skilled Worker Overseas Stream (SWO)

Each stream will include more flexible pathways to ensure that all provincial nominees are able to meet clearly defined labour market and economic needs in Manitoba. These priorities will be clearly communicated to potential MPNP applicants through a regularly updated In-Demand Occupations list.

Read more about on the MPNP website.

Alberta Opportunity Stream

The planned changes, including the January start date, is postponed in order for the government to continue conversations with affected stakeholders.  Prospective applicants can continue to apply under the existing streams.

Effective January 2, 2018, the Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP) will be making changes to its streams. The AINP will reduce the number of streams available. These changes will simplify application processes, reduce wait times, and make it fairer for applicants across all sectors and industries in Alberta. The AINP will also be more responsive to emerging labour market needs while supporting the goal of building a skilled, permanent workforce and a more diversified economy.
