Parents and grandparents sponsorship 2021- 30,000 invitations starting September 20, 2021

Using the same random selection process as used in previous years, IRCC will send invitations to potential sponsors who have already submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 and were not invited in 2020. Invitations to apply will be sent over the course of 2 weeks, starting the week of September 20, 2021. The selected potential sponsors will have their income assessed for tax years 2020, 2019 and 2018. This is the same as those who applied as part of the 2020 intake. Applications can be submitted using the new Permanent Resident Digital Intake tool.

Invitations will be sent over the course of 2 weeks, starting the week of September 20, 2021. Those who are invited to apply will have 60 days to submit the application. Selected potential sponsors will have their income assessed for tax years 2020, 2019 and 2018. This is the same as those who applied as part of the 2020 intake.

In order to confirm whether they’ve been selected, potential sponsors should check the email account they used to submit their 2020 interest to sponsor form. They will also be able to check their status online using their 2020 confirmation number. Further details will be posted on IRCC’s website in the coming weeks for those who no longer have access to their email account.

Misplaced confirmation numbers can be retrieved using the Lost My Confirmation Number tool, which will be available online once all the invitations have been sent.

Parents and Grandparents Intake 2020 postponed

Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada announced that the intake of permanent visa applications for the parents and grandparents sponsorship program will be postponed. The Department will need more time to complete the development of a new application intake management process for the parents and grandparents sponsorship program, to be implemented in 2020. The Minister intends to issue further instructions relating to the intake management process for the parents and grandparents program by April 1, 2020, at the latest. IRCC encourages interested potential sponsors and stakeholders to stay up to date on PGP 2020 by visiting IRCC’s website and social media channels: Facebook and Twitter.

Parents and Grandparents sponsor form available at noon EST on January 28, 2019

Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program interest to sponsor form will be available to potential sponsors starting at noon EST on January 28, 2019. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will accept interest to sponsor submissions for a limited time and then invite potential sponsors to submit a complete application, in the order their submissions were received, until the 2019 cap of 20,000 complete applications is reached.

Here’s how the new process will work:

Step 1: Potential sponsors indicate their interest.

The interest to sponsor form will open at noon EST on January 28, 2019. The form will remain available on IRCC’s website until we receive a specific number of complete interest to sponsor forms. At that point, the form will no longer be accessible.

Step 2: Invitations to sponsor are sent.

Interested potential sponsors are invited to submit a complete application to sponsor their parents and grandparents.

Step 3: Applications are submitted.

Those who are invited to apply will be given 60 calendar days for IRCC to receive their complete application. Those who submitted an interest to sponsor form and received a confirmation number, but did not receive an invitation to apply in 2019, will have their form retained by IRCC for consideration in 2020.

IRCC opens Parents & Grandparents Program in 2018

Potential sponsors will have the opportunity to express their interest to sponsor in 2018

Canadian citizens and permanent residents will soon be able to take the first step in applying to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada when the Parents and Grandparents Program reopens in 2018. The “Interest to Sponsor” form will be available at noon EST on January 2, 2018. Those who wish to apply to sponsor their parents and grandparents in 2018 must first fill out this online form. It will be available until noon February 1, 2018.

To help ensure the efficiency of the system and to allow as many eligible sponsors as possible to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada, it is important that only those who meet the sponsorship eligibility requirements submit an “Interest to Sponsor” form. Additional questions have been added to the 2018 version of the “Interest to Sponsor” form to help potential sponsors self-assess whether they are eligible to sponsor.
